    National Quilting Day

The day originated from a "Quilter's Day Out" in 1989, organized by the Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society. The event was a success, and participating quilters decided to make it a national event. The first National Quilting Day was celebrated in 1992.

Here are some ways to celebrate National Quilting Day:

    • Label your quilts

Put a simple cotton label on one or more of your quilts to preserve their story.

    • Hang your quilts

Hang your quilts outside to educate and inspire others to celebrate quilting.

    • Teach others

Share your quilting skills by teaching a simple quilt project to friends, family, neighbors, schools, or a youth group.

    • Make a quilt for a cause

Work on a quilt for a local or national cause, or check with local departments and facilities to see if they need quilts.

    • Organize a quilt history day

Invite members of the community to share their quilts and document them for a state project.

Join us as Heather Kojan, teacher, quilter, and published quilt designer helps us find fresh ideas for those stale projects in our closets.  Heather's presentation "Quilt Remix: UFO's, Orphan Blocks and what was I thinking??!!" will help us come to terms with those UFOs, fabric and little sewn bits taking over our sewing room.  She will talk about why we have them, how to finish them and maybe when to get rid of them!

    Doors open at 5:30pm.

    Heather Kojan Biography:

I've been sewing since my teens and quilting for more than 25 years. My first quilt was an Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day. Since I had a king sized bed, it made sense to me to make a king sized quilt. Go big or go home, right? That quilt was in shades of mauve and dusty blue (hello mid '80's!) Let's just say my fabric tastes have changed since then!

I consider myself a modern quilter, with traditional roots. I'm the founder of the Baltimore Modern Quilt Guild and love speaking to different groups and sharing the modern aesthetic. You can often find me teaching at quilt guilds and quilt shows around the country.

I'm a contributing author to the book Classic Modern Quilts and a featured quilter in The Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters by Sherri Lynn Wood, and 50 Little Gifts published by Lucky Spool. You can frequently find my work in Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Magazine, Modern Patchwork Magazine, Quiltmaker Magazine, Curated Quilts Magazine and QuiltCon Magazine.

Let's connect! You can find me on my blog: www.heatherkojan.com or on Instagram @heatherkojan.

If you have any questions, please contact Chris.

Join us as Emma Jane Powell, teacher, quilter, traveler and owner of Dream It - Quilt It!  will help us all get real about those unfinished projects as she guilds us through "Managing Unfinished Projects".

This fun, self-deprecating, and interactive presentation will kick start our drive to change the pending status of ongoing sewing projects. She will help us dive deeper into why these projects are stagnant, and take an honest approach for how to proceed with quilts we may have lost our enthusiasm for, or would love to finish up already! Guild members will leave with time management and productivity tools to manage the quilts you want to finish!

    Doors open at 5:30pm.

If you have any questions, please contact Chris.

Join us and see what we are talking about!

    • Tuesday, December 08, 2026
    • 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM
    • Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church, 201 E. Fort Macon Road, Atlantic Beach

Yes! Enthusiastic quilters are meeting at Shepherd by the Sea Lutheran Church!

We are working on projects and UFOs, swapping fabric, sharing quilts, and chatting up a storm.

    Come join us.

If you are looking for a new project, the CCQG Lending Library is always available for browsing during weekly drop-in sessions. You can sit in an airy, light-filled room to browse through books, or check them out for home use. Read about the Lending Library here.

    • Wednesday, December 30, 2026
    • 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM
    • Carteret County Public Library-Beaufort Branch, 1702 Live Oak Street, Beaufort NC

"The Library Quilters" is a new mini group of stitchers interested in hand stitching and crazy quilting.  Join us on the last Wednesday of the month in the conference room at the Beaufort Public Library (left side of the library halfway down the wall).

We're doing more crazy quilting. Show us what you've done and any examples of crazy quilting from other projects. Everyone will need to bring their own supplies.

Call Pepper (252) 732-0551 if you have questions.
