Exploring creativity through quilting

Workshops

The CCQG Workshop Committee is beginning to offer some in person workshops and events; however, due to COVID guidelines for meetings of large in person groups, we ask that you please wear a mask if you are unvaccinated and adhere to the social distancing guidelines that are in place.

Workshops are a favorite benefit of CCQG membership.  Exposure to new techniques is inspiring.  You can meet a world-class textile/design instructor in a small virtual group setting.    You will leave energized from the creative and social workout.

Need to do some shopping for supplies for a class?  Check out the Resource page to locate a local retailer.

No workshops will be held in June-August, and December.

Review the Workshop Policy before you register.

Block of the Month (BOM) Mystery Bag Challenge

This Block of the Month Mystery Challenge will run for 12 months, September 2023 to September 2024. The Mystery will be the fabric you receive, which will be the decision of the Challenge Group.   You will be given the block pattern the first month and will use the same block pattern each month.

    How it works:

    • The mystery bags will be handed out once a month at the guild meeting and at drop-in the same week as meeting.

    • The first bag will be handed out at the September 2023 meeting and the last bag in September 2024 (12 blocks).

    • To participate, the initial registration price will be $10 to help cover fabric costs and the first month's bag.

    • Each month if you finish the block from the previous month, it will cost $1 for the next new bag. If you did not complete the block, you can pay $5 to receive the next bag.

    • Bring completed blocks to the guild meeting or drop-in to receive next bag.

    • Expecting to be out of town, have your friend bring your completed block and $1 to the meeting for you.

    • You will choose your own neutral background but wait till you get the first bag to choose this background, as the fabric is a mystery.

    • If you present a finished quilt top, not quilted, at the October 2024 meeting, your name will be entered into a surprise give away.

REGISTRATION WILL END SEPTEMBER 1, 2023.

Once you register, please contact Chris P., Joyce D., or Karen P. to pick your two colorways and they will try to accommodate.

    Join us for some fun!

Make and Take Workshop: Sashiko and Wool Embroidery/Applique

Leave the sewing machines at home and join us for a day of slow stitching.  This will be a day of learning or improving a couple of hand sewing projects.

The morning will be devoted to Sashiko.  Patti will be demonstrating the Moyozashi style of sashiko uses long lines of running stitches to create intricate patterns. In this traditional Japanese artform, your stitches do not touch or intersect. She will provide a basic overview of history, samples, and resources, and demonstrate the basic running stitch technique. A kit with the Tobi Asa No Ha design will be provided for each student to continue learning on their own.

The afternoon will be devoted to Wool Embroidery and Applique.  Bonnie will build on the running stitch that you learned during the morning session, by demonstrating several additional embroidery stitches: back stitch, split stitch, stem stitch, daisy chain, etc. A kit will be provided for each student to make the small, fun artwork piece.

You will only need to bring hand sewing items:

    • Scissors,
    • Thread Catcher,
    • Thimble (Optional)
    • Lighting and/or magnification (Optional)

Join us for some fun and relaxing hand sewing.

If you have any questions, please contact Chris Pochwat  or Joyce Dimock.
