Hero Quilts Project
The Guild makes and donates quilts to men and women veterans across the Nation in appreciation for their service and sacrifice; in addition to donating quilts to the Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. On Veteran's Day, November 11, 2021, with the assistance of the Swansboro Marine Corps League Detachment #1407, Darlene Tracy presented 11 Hero Quilts to the veterans living at The Landing of Swansboro Assisted Living Home. One of the quilts presented was pieced by Virginia Amend and quilted by Kelly Arnett. On October 15, 2017, Steve Tracy, husband of Hero Quilt Chairperson, Darlene Tracy, presented Fran Mitchell with a Hero Quilt made by the Crystal Coast Quilters Guild. Fran, age 93, enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1944. The quilt was awarded to Fran at the Marine Corps League Bangor Maine Detachment. |
