Exploring creativity through quilting

Hurricane Florence Recovery Quilt Project

Hurricane Florence made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane the morning of Friday, September 14, 2018, and damage in Carteret County was widespread.  Over the past few weeks, the members of CCQG have pieced, quilted, and distributed over 100 quilts from Newport to Downeast Carteret County.

Initially, 15 quilts were donated to Sea Level United Methodist Church, Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Newport and Newport Community Baptist Church.  In December 2018, 18 quilts were delivered to the Morehead Middle School Blanket Drive for distribution to families of students.   In March 2019, 15 quilts were delivered to Elizabeth Pond for distribution to residents of Davis Shores.  The remaining quilts were delivered to Carteret Warriors for Recovery for distribution.

Thank you to our business and financial partners, The Warm Company, Hancock’s of Paducah, Michael Miller Fabrics, Riley Blake Designs, Superior Threads, The Fat Quarter Shop, Shabby Fabrics, Vicky’s Country Quilting, K-Squared Quilts & Embroidery, the staff of the NOAA Boulder Labs Library, and to the many CCQG members and volunteers who have assisted with this project.
