Kids Quilts Project
To date, over 493 children have been helped since the opening of the Carteret Children's Advocacy Center in 2021; including 151 children in 2024. This year, CCQG donated 78 quilts for a total of 425 quilts since the CAC's opening in 2021. Many thanks to our members for making all those beautiful quilts for the children in Carteret County who appreciate these tokens of warmth and love. |
During the April 2023, Carteret County schools' Spring Break, the Children's Advocacy Center hosted a Child Abuse Prevention Activity Day in Morehead City. Holly S., Cindy M., and Laurie M. provided and supervised two sewing/quilting activities for the children. Thanks to Nan M. and Sharon W. for sharing supplies and ideas for the activities. The theme of the event was Super Heroes, and a few stopped by to visit with attendees. A fun day was had by all.
Since 2021, Bonnie Sturdevant and Holly Schultz have delivered over 110 kid quilts each year to the Carteret County Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) in Morehead City. The CAC advocates for child victims of abuse and provides care and support they need to begin healing. Director Jessica told me she had to deliver quilts to kids who left their quilt by mistake. She said receiving a quilt really means something to these children. The ribbon cutting, grand opening, and dedication of Sasha's Place at the CAC was on October 29, 2021 and was a great success. Sheriff Asa Buck, police chiefs from Emerald Isle to Beaufort were present as well as the entire team of county agencies who work closely with the children and families affected by sexual abuse or severe physical abuse. Our Guild was represented by Cathy C., Patti M., Nan M., Cindy M., Bonnie S., and Holly S. |
