EXTENDED Drop-In Sewing with Tips and Tricks (Tuesday, August 04, 2026)

EXTENDED HOURS for Drop-In Sewing

Yes! We are trying out extended hours for drop-in sewing on the first Tuesday of the month; along with "Tips, Tricks, and Treasures" presentation. Mary will give a presentation on making yo-yos and using them in your quilts. The presentation will begin at 10:30am and last around 15 minutes.

In addition, bring your snacks, lunch goodies, and stay to sew all day on whatever your heart desires.

If you are looking for ideas or a new project, the CCQG Lending Library will be available in the office area of the Church. You can sit in an airy, light-filled room to browse through books, or check one out to use at home.

Or if you just need to chat, pop in at the Church, between 9 AM to 4:00PM, on the first Tuesday of the month and see what your friends are creating.

We're doing more crazy quilting. Show us what you've done and any examples of crazy quilting from other projects. Everyone will need to bring their own supplies. You can even bring your coffee/tea with you.

Charity Sew Day: Hospice Quilts and Breast Cancer Blocks (Saturday, August 22, 2026)

It is Charity Sew Day, Come and Sew with Us!

Our Charity Sew will be a great time to have some fun and help make some blocks for a hospice or breast cancer awareness quilt.

Bring your quilting supplies, pink and white fabric, patterns, lunch and/or snacks to share if you feel so inclined.

Iron, ironing board and cutting mat will be provided.

It is your choice as to which project you work on: a hospice quilt, a breast cancer block, or both.

UGLY Fabric Block of the Month (Thursday, September 17, 2026)

Exciting, New Block of the Month (BOM)

Ugly Fabric BOM

WHEN: September 2026-September 2027…13 months of blocks. You will receive a block pattern each month. Some months you will make one block some months more than one block of same pattern.

We will be using the book, BARN STAR SAMPLER by Shelley Cavanna, for the monthly patterns. *** I encourage you to buy the book but pattern will be available each month.

WHERE: Blocks will be given out at the Guild meeting each month.

WHO: ANYONE and everyone may participate.

FABRIC NEEDED: You will use your own fabric EXCEPT for ½ yard of “ugly fabric” that you will give to the cause. GREAT STASH BUSTER!!!

WHAT’S THE CATCH: Funny you should ask…..lol! Each month along with the pattern, you will be given a piece of someone else’s “ugly fabric” that you must incorporate into that months block. It can be any size of usage but must be able to be seen.

FINISHED SIZE: Book’s finished size is 80 x 100; but we have also sized it down to 76 x 80. So you have a choice.

FINISHED: Finished sewn tops will be shown in January 2028.

COST: $15.00.

The program this month will be given by Ellen LeRoy, a nationally-published beach portrait specialist based in Emerald Isle. She will discuss photography and how to get those great quilt photographs.

Make sure you arrive around 5:30PM for a little social time and snacks.

Ruler Quilting with Beth Heal (Friday, September 18, 2026)

Ruler Work Quilting with Beth Heal

Find out all you need to know to get started with ruler work quilting on your home sewing machine! This class is a basic introduction to using rulers to create precise and intricate quilting designs. This will be a slow relaxed class to ensure everyone can master the basics.

Materials Needed:

Westalee Ruler Foot the correct size for your machine. Please let me know if you need help determining the correct size for your machine.*

Westalee 12” arc ruler, and stable tape. There are many guild members who have this ruler and may be willing to loan it for this class. You may also purchase it through Amazon. (Sew Steady 12” Arc Ruler)*

An air or water erasable marker

Thread, scissors and your favorite sewing tools

Quilter’s gloves are recommended

A table type support that fits around your sewing machine bed that will support your rulers is highly recommended.

1 yard of muslin or any SOLID color quilting cotton plus quilt batting. We will make multiple quilt sandwiches for practice and a small pillow top.

Optional: Sew Steady Spacing Gauge optional but very helpful in aligning designs

Optional: A Cross Hair square ruler (12.5”) is highly recommended for setting up designs

Optional: A Supreme Slider or similar item to make your fabric slide easily on the machine bed

*NOTE: The Westalee Design/Sew Steady Ruler Foot Starter Kit contains both items listed above: the ruler foot and the 12” Arc Ruler. Be SURE you order the correct foot for your machine which will be either a high shank or a low shank foot. Again, let me know if you need help determining which one you need.
Additional note – There are very cheap ruler foot options on Amazon but they are plastic and will break before you even get started. The Westalee ruler foot is steel and will serve you well for ruler quilting as well as free motion quilting.

Class participants are expected to have a ruler foot and to have researched whether their machines are high or low shank. Sewing machine dealers should know whether or not your machine is high or low shank, a google search can also help with this.

Santa Gift Exchange: If you would like to participate in a Santa Gift Exchange of an item valued at $10.00 to $15.00, Please bring it to the Holiday Party.. Get your creative juices flowing and let your imagination steer you towards unique and useful gift purchases. Ask yourself "would I like to receive this gift"?
Christmas Block Exchange: 12-1/2” unfinished block. Colors: Green, Red, and Cream. Make two blocks, one for you to keep and one to exchange
Scholarships Awarded: 2-scholarships $300/each, winners must let Holly know by March 30 if they will NOT be able to use the scholarship so it can be passed to an alternate.
