Quilting It! Free Motion and Ruler Work Quilting Workshops

Free Motion Quilting:

Build confidence in your quilting skills to have more control over quilting designs for different areas of your quilts. Emma will help build your confidence and sharpen your skills with the quilting phase of quilt making. Two half day classes of different techniques can be combined for a full day, free motion morning + ruler work afternoon.

Come to class with one 22” x 36” basted quilt sandwich. Make it with a solid (or close to solid) color fabric, and batting of your choice. Spray basting is recommended for ease during the quilting process. 

• 40 or 50 weight thread of your preferred quilting thread brand

• Matching 50 weight cotton thread for bobbins. Gutermann, Aurifil, Superior are good quilting thread brands.

• One pack of quilting needles size 80/12. 

Ruler Work Quilting:

Find out all you need to know to get started with ruler work quilting on your home sewing machine! This class is a basic introduction to using rulers to create precise and intricate quilting designs. We will go over how to get started, how to use a straight ruler to make a wide variety of designs, and a demonstration on using other types of rulers.

Additional Supplies:

• Ruler foot for your machine.*
• Twelve inch arc Westalee Ruler (available from instructor for $21). 
• You may bring other rulers that you have instead of purchasing the ruler listed above. 

*Class participants are expected to have a ruler foot and to have researched whether their machines are high or low shank. Sewing machine dealers should know whether or not your machine is high or low shank, a google search can also help with this. The instructor will not know what your machine requires.
